As the custodian of the comments queue, Yr Doktor Zoom sometimes gets a bit jaded -- another day, another bunch of lines from rightwing bumper stickers. Today, though, we came in for withering butthurt from a reader who wants us to know that Wonkette's piece on the detention of Glenn Greenwald's partner was very, very disappointing. We're not entirely certain whether HTML-savvy commenter "andnbsp" is replying to another comment, or to the article as a whole, though we think it's probably the latter:
Being a backbiting little tone-policing fink is actually excellent liberalism, so I can't, in good conscience, sneer at you for that. I reserve the right to sneer at you for being a terrible leftist, though, if you have ever considered that part of your political identity.
We have been put in our place. And "andnbsp" is free to return to theirs, which most likely is firedoglake.
Our next missive is in response to our stories on Canadian Anchor Babby Ted Cruz and the notion that Cruz's eligibility will not be contested by birthers. One "prsmith" wants to set us straight: true birthers have NO double standard for Ted Cruz or any other insufficiently-American candidate:
Nice try; no cigar. I am a birther and I've been on Obama's ass for 4+ years. He's a perjurer, a liar, a forger, a thief, a conspirator, a usurper and, if actually born in Hawaii, a traitor. Neither Bobby Jindal or Marco Rubio are eligible to be POTUS and for the same reason as Obama -- both of their parents were not U.S. citizens when the boys were born. Cruz was born with joint citizenship -- U.S. & Canadian because he was born of American parents but in a foreign land. If the GOP runs any of those three, we (and there are LOTS of us) will work to ensure that they lose another presidential election. NATURAL BORN CITIZEN: A person born on U.S. soil (jus soli) AND of citizen parents (plural; jus sanguinis)
It is awfully nice to know that there are people out there who are so dedicated to helping the GOP lose elections. We would take a moment to refute those completely made up "requirements" for presidential candidates, but if the Supreme Court didn't find them worth engaging, why should we? (Oh, and Ted Cruz's nice dad is Cuban. CUBAN!)
We also got this charming note from "stretchthisplz" on this morning's story about North Carolina Legislative Badass Ellie Kinnaird, who's leaving the state Senate to help voters cope with the state's voter suppression laws:
Its a riot that DEMTARDS need help from an 81 year old to get a government ID, I mean how dumb can you be??????
We suspect that "stretchthisplz" may secretly be in charge of GOP outreach efforts for minorities and old folks.
And finally, a rather late-to-the-party comment from "RK" on our story about the Men's Rights Advocates who just want to want to "stand their ground" against those awful women who run everything these days. It's all just a matter of fighting injustice, says "RK" in his neimollereque plaint:
We exposed biases against other races -- we called it racism,
We exposed biases against women -- called it sexism.
We are exposing biases against men -- male hating feminists call it humor.
Yes. And when they came for you, "RK," we laughed, because you were a self-important whiner.
I don't know if you read Iain Banks (cheesy, yet sweeping, space opera), but this has left me all day thinking that your full name should be Called-To-Fabulous-From-Brilliant Philosophical-Doctor-of-Motherfucking-English ElviouslyQueer
This should give Jon McNaughten an aneurysm (with fucking votes).
